My parents named me Sherry Rose, two ‘styles’ of wine, so I joke that it has always been my destiny to work in the wine industry.

Despite starting my career in financial services, wine was my true love and I decided to follow that calling. When I tell people I work in the wine industry, this is always the first thing they say to me: "I love wine, but I don't know anything about it."

And it's not surprising: most wine "classes" are set up to make you an expert, not to help you as a consumer. And, so, I've decided to take a different approach, one that allows you to enjoy wine, while also walking away with the language to use to confidently make your own buying choices.

Sherry holds the Diploma of Wine Studies from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, a BS from Cornell University in Communications and an MBA from London Business School. She first fell in love with wine while living abroad for a month in Torino, Italy during university and immediately enrolled in an intro to wines course when she returned to school. While she began her career in global financial services, she spent her nights and weekends working in wine retail shops. In 2010, Sherry relocated from New York to Napa Valley to join the wine industry full-time. From London to New York to Napa, Sherry has held various roles ranging from PR, retail sales, marketing, event management, teaching and freelance writing. She currently teaches for the East London Wine School and writes about wine, with articles published in Decanter, The Somm Journal, Vivino and Wine Access.

"Be Wineful."

It's an expression another wine-loving friend and I came up with while discussing this idea. I believe it encapsulates all I want this adventure to stand for: confidence, approachability, mindfulness and balance.

Wine can be intimidating -- but it doesn't have to be. We all just want to feel comfortable that we're spending money on something we will enjoy drinking!

Yet, wine isn’t just a drink; it’s an experience. It’s about who you're with, what your surroundings are like and every tactile feeling around you. Ever notice how a wine tastes better when you're drinking it with someone you love or in the midst of the vineyards where the grapes were grown? All of the photos on this site I've taken myself, during moments at vineyards throughout the world where I've had such a memorable wine experience.

Like you, every wine is unique. Your palate is like a fingerprint.

While there are algorithms, apps and every other technological advancement under the sun that promises to tell you your ‘wine type’ or suggest wines you’ll like, nothing can replace your personal experience with a particular wine and how you react to it in a real-world, social setting.

With 'be wineful," my mission is to empower you to understand how to easily make those choices yourself, so you can drink and appreciate more of the wines YOU like.

Cheers!
Sherry
